Mandatory electronic tag for commercial driving ( Statens vegvesen) |
New rules from 1 January 2015 Electronic tag (autoPASS) is now mandatory for vehicles used for commercial purposes. The injunction also apply to all vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, which is owned or leased by enterprises or government agencies. Electronic tag is not mandatory for campers, or other vehicle owned privately and only used for private purposes. |
Safety vest at MC and moped (Statens vegvesen) |
New rules from 1 January 2014 From 1 January 2014 it is mandatory to carry a reflective vest also when driving mopeds and motorcycles. The vest must be used for emergency stop so that the driver can be seen along the road. The vest must be CE approved. There are approved vests pocket sized. It will not yet be imposed fee for failure to reflective vests, but the police can print fine if you do not use vest in situations where it is required. |
End of additional passengers (Statens vegvesen) |
New rules from 1 August 2013 From 1 August are no longer allowed to have a child under 15 years in the back seat of a car or under 10 years on the back of a moped. Additional passengers in the back seat So far, at certain vehicles with large rear and no requirements for seat belt you could have one child under 15 years additional to the number of passengers the vehicle is registered for. This rule will now be repealed. No cars can have more passengers than what they signed up for. Children on the back of a moped In Norway, a moped is just registered for one person. In addition, it has been allowed to carry a passenger under 10 years of age. This rule will now be repealed. From 1 August it is no longer allowed to carry a passenger on a moped. |
Use of mobile phones (Statens vegvesen) |
New rules from the 2nd May 2013 The driver of a motor vehicle must not use a mobile phone while driving. The driver can still use your mobile phone to start up, conduct and end a call when the cell phone while driving is handsfree or placed in a holder. The holder shall be mounted adjacent to the steering wheel and as close to the driver´s normal field of view while driving as possible, unless the holder is an integral part of the vehicle´s original furnishings. Driver license and medical certificate (Statens vegvesen) |
FROM 19 JANUARY 2013 | "Small" medical certificate is not longer used. You need a new driver license when age of 75. | The new driving license rules require that your entitlements shall be specified in the license. If you want to drive a motor vehicle in your old age, consult a doctor who may issue a health certificate for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years - depending on your health condition. The requirement of general medical examination postponed from 70 to age 75 years. | The amendments are supported by health authorities in the light of the increased life expectancy and improved overall health status of the population. The doctor has a duty to notify the health department in the county governor if you do not meet the health requirements. Note: If you have been issued a "small" medical certificate before 19 January 2013, it is a valid driver license to expiration date. If expiration date comes before your 75th birthday, you can wait until the 75th anniversary of generating new health certificate and possibly order a new license. If you have turned 75 years before the 19th January 2013, you can wait until the expiration date before you get a new health certificate and possibly ordering a new driver license with the same validity period. |

When 4 dots, you will receive notice, and at 8 dots are driving license revoked for 6 months. Young drivers must also take theoretical and practical driving test again. Eight dots in three years you will lose the right to drive a motor vehicle for six months. The dots will be deleted three years after the fine is approved. If you lose your license, the dots that led to the seizure will be deleted when you get back the driving license. |

Tyres - studded / winter / summer (Statens vegvesen) |
Studded tyres | Allowed - In southern Norway: from November 1 to and including Sunday after Easter (prohibited from the first Monday after the 2nd day of Easter to and including October 31) - I Nordland, Troms, Finnmark: from October 16 to and including April 30 (prohibited from May 1 to and including October 15) Note! You may use studded tyres and chains outside these dates if road conditions require it. The requirement of sufficient traction are the most important. - Studs are only allowed in the winter tyres (except for motorcycles) - If a car uses studded tyres, all wheels are to be studded (vehicles up to and including 3500 kg) - Vehicles over 3 500 kg: wheels that sit on the same axle must have the same type of tyres (eg studded tyres) |
